DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, now in its 14th year in San Francisco, is the city’s most anticipated high-design charitable event. DIFFA SF provides critical fundraising for uninsured HIV/AIDS patients at the UCSF Positive Health Program at San Francisco General Hospital.
For 2014, we are taking a moment to honor DIFFA’s 30 Years of giving. Stay tuned as we announce more information about the spectacular reception hosted at The NWBLK.
In 1993, DIFFA’s Kansas City chapter produced the first DINING BY DESIGN event as the local design community sought to engage designers and donors in their campaign to raise desperately needed funds for HIV/AIDS care. Other cities soon followed garnering local, regional and national media coverage and extensive corporate and private donor support.
Because the need for HIV/AIDS funding persists, DIFFA chapters in New York, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City and Los Angeles have also produced fundraising events in their cities. These nationally recognized events are a “must” on each city’s social calendar. Renowned Filmmaker John Waters once referred to the popular DINING BY DESIGN event held by DIFFA as the “Cannes of Tabletop.”
DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS is one of the country’s largest supporters of direct care for people living with HIV/AIDS and preventive education for those at risk. Merging care and commerce, supporters of DIFFA come from all fields of fine design and the visual arts, including: architecture, fashion design, interior design, photography and consumer product design.
With fundraising efforts bolstered by strategic partnerships and unique events showcasing innovation and creativity, DIFFA has mobilized the immense resources of the design communities and granted over $40 million to hundreds of AIDS service organizations nationwide.
Since being founded in 1984 by Patricia Green and Larry Pond, DIFFA has granted funds to organizations which fight AIDS by providing:
- preventive education programs targeted to populations at risk of infection
- treatment and direct-care services for people living with HIV/AIDS
- public policy initiatives which add resources to private sector efforts
The San Francisco chapter of DIFFA supports the UCSF Positive Health Program at San Francisco General Hospital.
Because San Francisco’s luxury and design industries are so heavily involved, the DIFFA San Francisco events boast one of the city’s most coveted silent auctions. This year’s Objet designs will be auctioned, among travel, entertainment, dining and luxury accommodation prizes as well. All auction submissions are reviewed and are professionally displayed both evenings. If you would like to submit an auction item, please EMAIL the Silent Auction committee.
