DINING BY DESIGN, presented by DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, now in its 13th year in San Francisco, is the city’s most anticipated high-design charitable event showcasing top designers who create fantastic, one-of-a-kind tabletop installations.
DINING BY DESIGN San Francisco takes place over two nights: COCKTAILS BY DESIGN preview party on Tuesday, October 29, and the seated GALA DINNER on Wednesday, October 30. We are pleased to welcome several returning table sponsors and designers as we look forward to introducing many new participants. 2013 promises to be an exciting and inspirational year of breakthrough design, culinary excellence and critical fundraising for uninsured HIV/AIDS patients at the UCSF Positive Health Program at San Francisco General Hospital.
In 1993, DIFFA's Kansas City chapter produced the first DINING BY DESIGN event as the local design community sought to engage designers and donors in their campaign to raise desperately needed funds for HIV/AIDS care. Other cities soon followed garnering local, regional and national media coverage and extensive corporate and private donor support.
Because the need for HIV/AIDS funding persists, DIFFA chapters in New York, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City and Los Angeles have also produced DINING BY DESIGN in their cities. This nationally recognized event is a "must" on each city's social calendar. Renowned Filmmaker John Waters once referred to DINING BY DESIGN as the "Cannes of Tabletop."
DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS is one of the country’s largest supporters of direct care for people living with HIV/AIDS and preventive education for those at risk. Merging care and commerce, supporters of DIFFA come from all fields of fine design and the visual arts, including: architecture, fashion design, interior design, photography and consumer product design.
With fundraising efforts bolstered by strategic partnerships and unique events showcasing innovation and creativity, DIFFA has mobilized the immense resources of the design communities and granted over $40 million to hundreds of AIDS service organizations nationwide.
Since being founded in 1984 by Patricia Green and Larry Pond, DIFFA has granted funds to organizations which fight AIDS by providing:
- preventive education programs targeted to populations at risk of infection
- treatment and direct-care services for people living with HIV/AIDS
- public policy initiatives which add resources to private sector efforts
In San Francisco, DINING BY DESIGN supports the work of DIFFA and the UCSF Positive Health Program at San Francisco General Hospital.
Because San Francisco's luxury and design industries are so heavily involved, DINING BY DESIGN boasts one of the city's most coveted silent auctions. It features artisan design items as well as travel, entertainment, dining and luxury accommodation prizes as well. All auction submissions are reviewed and are professionally displayed the Galleria both evenings. If you would like to submit an auction item, please complete our Silent Auction Item Submission Form online or contact the Silent Auction committee by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
